We originally thought that an announcement wouldn’t be made until SDCC, but Variety reports that Ryan Reynolds of “X-Men Origins: Wolverine” has landed the coveted role of Hal Jordan in the Warner Bros. live-action film adaptation of DC Comics’ intergalactic superhero series.
Martin Campbell is scheduled to direct and production is expected to begin in January.
Reynolds, who played Wade Wilson in “X-Men Origins: Wolverine,” promoted Fox to begin development on a Deadpool spinoff. Recently, Reynolds starred opposite Sandra Bullock in the romantic comedy “The Proposal,” which crossed the $100 million mark this week.
Reynolds was selected over “The Hangover” star Bradley Cooper and Jared Leto. “Green Lantern” is written by Greg Berlanti with Marc Guggenheim and Michael Green. Donald DeLine will produce with Berlanti.
