They said it would be never be done, but there’s something about the power of Amazon that has made one of the most unlikely sequels a reality. In 1987, Mel Brooks’ Spaceballs: The Movie. Now, nearly 40 years later, a sequel is officially in the works from Amazon MGM.
Variety is reporting that Josh Gad is set to star as well as produce alongside Brooks. There is no word as to whether Brooks will return as Yogurt, or if any of the other living cast members (Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga, Rick Moranis) will reprise their roles from the original films. What will be noticeably missing are John Candy as Barf, and Joan Rivers as Dot Matrix.
There are not currently any details on the plot or the script that’s being written by Benji Samit, Dan Hernandez, and Gad (“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,” “Pokemon Detective Pikachu,” “Addams Family 2,” and the upcoming Disney+/Lucasfilm special “Lego Star Wars: Rebuild The Galaxy.”)
We just hope it doesn’t suck.
