WB Wants 7 Batman Sequels

WB CEO Jeff Bewkes recently compared the Batman series to the Harry Potter film franchise, saying that they hope to release a long line of sequels.

Here’s what he had to say:

“We look at Harry Potter. It’s fantastic to have franchises that last that long. We want to do that with Batman and Superman and perhaps Sherlock Holmes. The sequels are as good, with new characters added, as were the originals. That wasn’t the case in the years ago. Warners has more tentpoles as an on-going strategy that very much lifts its distribution and performance. We think that’s going to hold up our slate in the 2009 – 2010 period. We’ve got four more big tentpoles coming this year.”

So here’s the question. Does the Franchise have that much blood left in it, or will it wither into some Jim Carey Co Starring tragedy.

Christopher Nolan will probably only do one more before he moves on to do other work. Is there another director who could do the movie justice? Maybe Zach Snyder could do it. After All, Frank, “I just made Will Eisner’s Corpse Weep”, Miller has already given Snyder his blessing on doing an adaptation of The Dark Knight Returns. Perhaps we’ll see some elseworlds stories like Red Rain. What do you want to see?
