Summit Entertainment made an appearance at WonderCon Saturday to present Paul W.S. Anderson’s upcoming film adaptation of “The Three Musketeers.” While no new footage was shown actors Logan Lerman (D’ Artagnan) and Luke Evans (Aramis) were on hand to present and to entertain the crowd.
The one thing the folks at Summit want fans to know is that this is not your mother’s Three Musketeers and because I have been curiously optimistic about this film I can attest that it will kick all kinds of ass in a new action oriented modern Three Musketeers way. Think “Pirates of the Caribbean” but with Musketeers instead of pirates.
The footage that was shown included the new trailer that made its way online a week ago, in addition to a behind-the-scenes featurette. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed because it was rather all ho-hum. It probably would have been better if they saved the trailer for WonderCon, but what can you do, right?
During the panel, Lerman and Evans both agreed that Jovovich was “an ass kicking Milady” and terrified all of them in the film. They spent most of the time discussing the training they had to undergo to sword fight. This was necessary because they did the scenes themselves and Evans was adamant about performing his own action scenes.
According to both Evans and Lerman, fans can expect a very fresh and contemporary take on “The Three Musketeers.” It’s not really just about men in tights and sword fighting anymore, but rather a Batman or James Bonds of that era. They all have gizmos and gadgets that never existed in other “Three Musketeers” movies.
Evans describes his character as, “A 16th century James Bond… Paul wanted to create an Aramis who was a Batman, ninja Terminator.”
