‘Y: The Last Man’ TV Series Loses Its Producers

There’s a bit of a shake-up over at the FX TV production of Brian K Vaughn’s Y: The Last Man comic book adaptation. Producers Aida Mashaka Croal and Michael Green just announced that they’ve parted ways with the show via Twitter, stating that FX “has decided not to move forward with our series in its current form.”

They went on to say this in a joint statement:
“We hoped to reward their talent and their trust not just with success, but with a show that had something to say, in a time when things must be said. As Y fans ourselves, we hope the future allows just that.”

Honestly, it sounds like they wanted to go a lot more political than FX, and possibly Disney were comfortable. Yeah… don’t forget that FX is now owned by Disney. You can infer a lot from the wording of their statement that they probably wanted their story to be a lot more relevant to the current political atmosphere than anyone else wanted to.

This leaves the show without producers. Will it still get made? Who knows. It is not too late to pull the plug without making it a major loss for the studio, but it would be a real shame to kill yet one more chance to turn a great comic book into a potentially excellent live action show. If it happens, Y: The Last Man will star Barry Keoghan, Diane Lane, Lashana Lynch, Imogen Poots, Amber Tamblyn and Julianna Canfield.
