Check out these sample models from Objet’s new “affordable” 3D printing machine that’s aimed at replacing your basic all-in-one home office inkjet.
On display at SIGGRAPH in Vancouver, Objet shows off some cool Hollywood examples (Thor’s Destroyer and Avatar’s Na’vi ) of how its multi-material Objet260 Connex helped movie makers create prototype creatures that were ultimately used in the storyline.
Created these 3D prototypes take anywhere between 18 hours to a mere three or fewer. Painting is not necessary as you can also program it to be colored from the outset. Although a professional paintjob is recommended.
The cost? Around $80 for the materials. As for the Objet260 printer itself… just slightly more
