Darren Aronofsky recently revealed to HitFix that his Wolverine sequel which begins production in March will have a much shorter title than its previous incarnation. Rather than “X-Men Origins: Wolverine 2” it will simply be known as “The Wolverine.”

Moreover, Aronofsky also talked about how the movie will be less of a sequel but a “one-off,” which is probably music to every comic fanboy’s ears.

“The Wolverine” is scripted by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects, Valkyrie) bassed on the infamous 1982 Wolverine miniseries by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller. The story will take Logan to Japan where he falls in love, fights ninjas and the Tokyo criminal underworld.

“This is, hopefully for me, going to be out of the box. It’s going to be the best one, I hope,” star Hugh Jackman said last month. “Well, I would say that, but I really do feel that, and I feel this is going to be very different.”

Claws crossed, here’s to hoping!
