No, I’m not saying that some Dateline reporter is going to ask him to have a seat for a moment. I’m talking about Robert Rodriguez announcing that he’ll be directing a relaunch of the great movie license, Predator.
Variety is reporting that Rodriguez is preparing for a very busy year with his relaunch of Predator and his new film for Fox, Machete. If the latter sounds familiar, that is because Machete will be a full blown movie based off the mock trailer from Grindhouse.
Machete is a Mexican ex-Federale with a gift for wielding a blade, who hides out as a day laborer, who is double-crossed by a corrupt state senator.
For Fox, Rodriguez has scripted “Predators,” a film that will bring back the dreadlock-sporting alien hunter who originated in the 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger hit “Predator.” While a sequel didn’t become a hit, Fox kept the alien sharp by launching the “Alien Vs. Predator,” a wildly profitable series that has racked up strong grosses and DVD sales, with little or no gross out the door.
