I grew up watching re-runs of The Munsters, so I’m not sure how much of my reaction to this new trailer is based in nostalgia and how much is objective. But, if this trailer is any indication of the quality of the film being released in theaters, it’s gonna be hard to watch.
The film feels like it was made to be released on Peacock and not on the big screen. It plays up the camp to a level of cringe. Part of the problem could be that Zombie keeps hiring his wife to star in his films. That might work if you’re Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter, but it has yet to yield real quality when it comes to Rob and Sheri Moon Zombie who is playing Lily Munster. Rounding out the cast are Jeff Daniel Phillips as Herman and Daniel Roebuck as Grandpa. The movie also features Richard Brake as Dr. Henry Augustus Wolfgang, Sylvester McCoy as Igor, Jorge Garcia as Floop and Catherine Schell as Zoya Krupp.
Zombie is known for his Hard-R horror and this adaptation of the classic TV series is set to be released as a PG film. It will be interesting to see if the world even cares about The Munsters anymore, and if they do, what will they think of this new re-imagining?
