Hyundai Auto Canada responses to the parking job accident video that took the Internet by storm last week, which was dubbed as one of the world’s worse parking jobs, by giving away a brand new 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring.
The video shows a black BMW SUV X5 trying to park at and Extreme Fitness parking lot, but instead of breaking the driver accidentally accelerates and runs over two parked cars.
Tripta Kaushal, 62, the driver of the BMW X5 has since been charged by York Regional Police for failing to remain at the scene of an accident. She is to appear in court Dec. 1.
One of the victim, Todd Jamison, systems administrator at the gym whose car was flattened, describes the incident as horrific. The other reportedly was a rental car.
“It sort of sucks,” Jamison said. Who’s 2004 Hyundai Elantra was destroyed.
Because Jamison drove a Hyundai, the car manufacturer took the opportunity to transform the accident into a nifty little marketing ploy on behalf of Hyundai.
According to Hyundai, “We went to find the owner of the Hyundai that was the victim of the bad park job and as a random act of kindness, we gave the owner, Todd Jamison, a free car, a brand new 2010 Hyundai Elantra Touring! Todd said ‘Wow’ a lot and ‘That’s fantastic!’ We gave a great car to a great guy. Smart is doing good. At Hyundai, we like a story with a happy ending.”
