Christina Aguilera Defends Herself After Flubbing National Anthem

Christina Aguilera is defending herself after her atrocious performance singing the National Anthem at the Super Bowl on Sunday.

“I can only hope that everyone could feel my love for this country and that the true spirit of its anthem still came through,” says Aguilera, explaining that she got lost in the moment — and lost her place in the song.

The Grammy winner not only over sang, but sang the wrong lyrics. Instead of “o’er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming” she sang “what so proudly we watched, at the twilight’s last reaming.”

Fellow singer/performer Fergie, from the Black Eyed Peas rushed to her defense on Monday as well. On the Dan Patrick radio show, she told listeners:

“You know what? It’s such a huge venue, your nerves take a hold of you…. I completely understand. She’s one of the best singers of our time. Nobody can take that away from you … But you get nervous at these things. We’re human.”

Of course, Aguilera is not the first to flubbing the words to the iconic National Anthem. She will now forever join other celebrities such as Michael Bolton, Jesse McCartney and Roseanne.
