Demon Sushi And Other Illustrations By Hanabiyori Tatami

Japanese demons, or Yokai, have been an important part of Japanese folklore for centuries and are even a part of one of the biggest Japanese anime’s right now, Yokai Watch. The idea of the yokai has permeated every aspect of Japanese culture. Even the basic sushi roll, the Kappa Maki, is named after the kappa yokai, a river imp that loves cucumbers.

Japanese artist, Hanabiyori Tatami, is paying tribute to the yokai with a series of illustrations pairing the demons with sushi, sake, plants, chochin lantern and instant curry.
