It’s a big year for equal rights in the US. With same sex marriages now being recognized by the government, more and more corporations are beginning to realize that that straight white people aren’t the only ones buying products.
Today, there’s a little bit of news breaking about the very first Barbie commercial to have a boy in it. I mean sure, they’ve made the boy in the commercial a reality show style caricature of gay culture, but I guess that’s a step in the right direction:
Now that that’s out of the way, let’s focus on the thing that doesn’t make you shake your head. As many of you know, Star Wars and Campbell’s have teamed up to create a line of Star Wars soups in conjunction with Star Wars the Force Awakens. Those are two giant brands with a strong “family values” following. That makes it all the more awesome that they’ve released an extremely cute commercial of a little boy with his two dads, each of whom use the “I am your father!” quote on him while he’s eating a bowl of soup.
The only thing not awesome about this commercial is that it’s so out of the norm that we notice it as something special and rare.
