Gordon Ramsey Reacts To Second Contestant Suicide

Gordon Ramsey might just be one of the most popular faces on TV right now. He’s had at least one US TV series going for the last few years at all times, he’s got other shows running in the UK, he has a whole slew of restaurants and he is even on The Home Shopping Network today hawking his new cookware. In many ways, he’s like the House MD of the Kitchen. He has all the answers and he knows how to save the day in the end, but he’s going to be a dick about it along the way and probably make someone cry.

Well, whether by coincidence of the sheer number of people he’s had on his shows or for some other reason, the second person to appear on one of his shows (Kitchen Nightmares). Joe Cerniglia’s body was found after he jumped to his death from the George Washington Bridge in New York City last Friday.

It is important to note that there’s probably a much bigger correlation between Cerniglia’s recent cocaine bust at his restaurant than Ramsey’s abrasive style.

Here’s what Ramsey had to say:

“I was fortunate to spend time with Joe during the first season of Kitchen Nightmares. Joe was a brilliant chef, and our thoughts go out to his family, friends and staff.”

This is the second time that one of Ramsey’s contestants took their own life. In 2007, Rachel Brown shot herself after appearing on “Hell’s Kitchen.”

Famed chef, Eric Ripert, a frequent guest judge on Bravo’s Top Chef, made his thoughts known through Twitter:

“Nothing personal against Gordon Ramsay, he is a poor inspiration for professional chefs in his shows Who perform better scared, insulted?”

“I have my bad days [too], but always try to improve. “TV or not, it’s no excuse! Ultimately, I believe in the goodness of Gordon, but he is very wrong.”

“Smart chef lead by sharing, teaching, inspiring with respect. Not insulting, abusing, humiliating their team.”
