In a recent interview with The Daily Record, Hugh Laurie, star of Fox’s hit medical drama “House,” says he won’t be looking to star on another television series anytime soon after the series ends.
Ever since Lisa Edelstein’s departure, there has been talk that this season could be the show’s last. Laurie himself hinted at the possibility in an interview earlier this year.
“The end of the eighth season, right now, looks like the end of the show,” he said. “That is as far as they have got me for.”
Laurie thinks he’s been spoiled with a successful show and plans to retire from acting on a high note once the show ends.
“I think I have been rather spoiled here,” Laurie says. “I can’t imagine there will be another one quite like this.”
“I think I will probably be as interested by either writing or producing or directing, or some other aspect. I find the whole field of it fascinating.”
“And I think I am extremely lucky to have had the one shot that I have had at it and I wouldn’t go looking for lightning to strike twice.”
“We have done 170-odd shows, that’s about 56 feature films worth,” explains the 52-year-old. “That’s a huge amount of experience and that sort of experience gives you a confidence in a way.”
“I think that I have a confidence that I might not have had. I’m slightly more confident now than when I started.”
So what does Laurie plan to do after “House” comes to an end?
“But my big source of solace and comfort is music. If the record company is up for it, I certainly am up for doing a second blues album. I’d jump for it like a shot.”
Hugh Laurie is one of the highest paid actor’s on television. In fact, he’s listed in the 2012 Guinness Book of World Records as the highest paid actor in a TV Drama, earning around $700,000 per episode.
