Michele Volpi’s Scientific Tattoos are Equal Parts Art and Academia

A great tattoo is a piece of art, but it is very rarely educational. Enter Italian artist, Michele Volpi. He’s taken her tremendous talent and used them to create tattoos that look like the finest academic drawings that you would find in a medical textbook or guide.

The artist draws his inspiration from scientific books like Frank Netter’s painterly medical illustrations and Ernst Haeckel’s biological specimens and marine life. While the chances of personally getting a tattoo from Volpi are slim, you can always enjoy his art via his Instagram, or by picking up an original illustration or a print in his shop.
