Hubcaps are the Lee Press-On Nails of the car industry. They are always falling off or getting stolen, and they really have no use after a while. That is, unless you are Ptolemy Elrington. The British artist has found a way to take the trash that falls off people’s wheels and turn them into art, when most people can’t seem to use them for much more than ash trays.
Elrington takes the trash and transforms it into amazing sculptures of animals, both real and imagined. The result is not only stunning, but can sell for thousands of dollars.
While he’s been working primarily with hubcaps for the last fifteen years, she’s now expanding her canvas to include tire rims and even shopping carts. Check out some her sculptures below.
