Most people toss their used tea bags aside like garbage, but not Ruby Silvious. She sees the stained little packets as the perfect canvas for beautiful works of art. Each tea bag she paints is given new life as a window into the kind of world you’d want to live in while sipping on a cup of tea. Her paintings range from laundry on the line, to cats on a window sill, to… well to people having a cup of tea.
The paintings are part of a year long art project that she began in January 2015. It has taken her across the world from France to Japan and has even yielded a book of her work. If you happen to be in Philly, her paintings will be part of a group show called “Deemed a Canvas” at Paradigm Gallery in Philadelphia, which opens on January 26th.
