While the Olympics were filled with many exciting moments, the Rio experience was also mired in pollution, scandals, and the fact that the host city just wasn’t equipped to handle the event. Thankfully, Japan will be the host city in 2020. You know, barring some sort of giant lizard or mecha attack.
As is customary, part of the closing ceremonies of the Olympics is a hand off to the next city, and the hand off video to Japan might have been one of the best that we’ve ever seen. Along with the athletes, the video included appearances by Pac-Man, Hello Kitty, Doraemon, and Japan’s Prime Minister, Shinzō Abe, turning into Mario from Super Mario Bros, and warping through the center of the earth, appearing in the center of the stadium in Rio.
