Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is not only under pressure for being the first non-trilogy film to be released from the franchise, but it has had several hiccups a long the way. The Most notable problem to date are the worrisome reshoots that were allegedly scheduled to lighten the tone of the film (Sounds like Disney execs saw BvS and got scared). Now, the production delay caused by those reshoots have created a new problem. Alexandre Desplat, the Oscar-winning composer, who composed scores for films like Argo and The Grand Budapest Hotel, was set to score the film, but has had to move on to another, previously scheduled gig.
The good news is that it isn’t like Disney is turning to someone with no track record or a history of mediocre music to fill the spot. It’s just been reported today that Michael Giacchino will be taking over the composer duties for the score. With a track record that includes Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up, Cars 2, Inside Out, Zootopia, Sky High, John Carter, and Tomorrowland, he’s proven that he’s got the chops for it. Also, given that he’s just composed the score for Marvel’s Doctor Strange movie, this means that by the end of the year, he’ll have left his fingerprints on every film division in the house of mouse.
