‘The Flash’ and ‘Supergirl’ Set For Two-Part Musical Crossover

It was The CW that really made the musical episode concept popular for this generation with an episode of Buffy The Vampire Slayer titled: Once More With Feeling. However, nearly all attempts to recreate that magic from Psych to Scrubs and even to shows like Grey’s Anatomy and Royal Pains, have not quite hit the mark. Now, the CW is going to try and recapture lightning in a bottle with a two part musical event that brings The Flash and Supergirl together.

Variety is reporting that the two parter will see cast members Grant Gustin, Melissa Benoist, Jeremy Jordan, and Jesse L. Martin singing. Unlike Buffy’s Once More With Feeling, most of these songs will be pre-existing (and probably originated by musicians on the Warner label).

AS to how they plan to make the musical plausible within the construct of the show, Greg Berlanti said:
“We’ve toyed with who potentially the villain could kind of be. My sense is we’ll be very careful about how it is they kind of break into song and there will probably be an element of being in some character’s head at the time.”

That actually sounds pretty similar to the demon from Buffy. Just sayin.

Lucky for the cast, a lot of them actually know how to sing. Both Gustin and Mellisa Benoist are veterans of FOX’s Glee, while Jesse L Martin is considered to be a Broadway legend. They could even bring in other universe regulars like John Barrowman (who has release several CDs and has performed at least one, one man show) and Victor Garber who famously played Jesus in the 1973 movie version of Godspell.
