Super Bowl XLV is a little more than two weeks away, but for all the non football fans it also means we’re a little more than two weeks away from some epic commercials. Hollywood realizes this and is finalizing its plan to take advantage of the most-watched television event of the year. Below is a tidbit of what movie trailers fans can expect to see during this year’s Super Bowl XLV!
Paramount Studios will lead the way with Super Bowl spots for six films: J.J. Abrams’ “Super 8,” “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” Gore Verbinski’s “Rango” with Johnny Depp and Marvel’s “Thor” and “Captain America: The First Avenger.”
Disney will follow up with “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” while Universal and DreamWorks’ have bought ad space for “Cowboys & Aliens.”
Both Warner Bros. and Fox do not have any ads slated for the broadcast, but that could change. Personally we can’t imagine “X-Men: First Class” not being shown or “Wolverine 2.”
Relativity Media will be placing their first Super Bowl ad and have bought time for “Limitless” starring Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro, which opens March 18.
Each 30-second spot will run the studio a staggering $3 million, up from last year. But the cost is well worth the admission as a record of 106 million viewers tuned in last year. In a study from Kanta Media, Disney alone has spent $70.8 million on Super Bowl ads since 2001.
Some studios chose not to air ads during the game, instead opting to advertise during the cheaper pregame festivities. This year, Sony has purchased ads for “Just Go With It,” “Battle: Los Angeles” and “Priest” before the game. Focus Features has also bought a pregame ad for “The Eagle,” while Paramount has purchased pregame ads for “Kung Fu Panda 2.”
