The nominations just came out for the 2019 Academy Awards. Comic book fans were rewarded for their patience after years of not being taken seriously as Black Panther garnered a nomination for best picture and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse got nominated for Best animated feature. The big winners of the morning are Roma and The Favorite, each of which landed 10 nominations.
Before you go getting too excited about Black Panther having a chance of winning best picture. Consider this. It’s very rare that a film gets nominated for Best Picture without also getting some love in either the Best Director, Actor, Actress, Supporting Actress, or Screenplay categories. These are all of the things that tend to go into making a movie the best picture. While it’s true that Black Panther got nominated for seven academy awards, the other six were for Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Production Design, Original Score,
Original Song, and Costume Design.
