A Three’s Company Movie? Sure! Who Needs New Ideas Anyways?

Three’s company was a great show in it’s time. Reruns of it are still funnier than a lot of shows airing for the first time. Part of that was because you could actually get away with more in the 70’s, and part of that was because John Ritter, Suzanne Summers and Joyce DeWitt had great chemistry. It was only more enhanced by their landlords, the Ropers played by Norman Fell and Audra Lindley. However, part of the show’s real magic was the time in which it took place.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the show, he’s the gist. 2 women and 1 man live together in an apartment before such a thing was considered socially acceptable. The only way for the man to avoid getting kicked out by the landlord is to lie and pretend he’s gay. That way, at least the landlord doesn’t have to worry about the purity of his female tenants being sullied by a sex crazed man in the freewheeling sex friendly 1970’s.

The concept, while it worked in it’s period, is about as relevant now as if they were to do a comedy about a black man pretending to be his white wife’s butler in order to fool their neighbors in the jim crow south.

Still, it’s a thing that an executive remembers, so that means it’s fodder for a reboot or adaptation of some kind and THR is reporting that it’s exactly what’s happening. The screenwriters of the complete shitshow of a movie “He’s just not that into you” (Sorry for swearing, but it’s the nicest thing I could think of to describe that mess), have been hired to take a stab at turning the classic sitcom into a film that could hopefully score better than BvS on Rotten Tomatoes.
