Growing up, it was hard to imagine anyone but John Astin and Carolyn Jones as Gomez and Morticia Addams. Amazingly, Raul Julia and Anjelica Houston managed to take the roles and make them their own for a whole new generation, while still doing right by those that came before them. Now it’s time for a new generation to give it a try, and while this time it will just be voices behind animated versions of the characters, it’s going to be really interesting to see what Oscar Isaac and Charlize Theron bring to the characters in MGM’s new animated adaptation of the Addams Family.
The great news is that the cast for they’ll be joined by an excellent supporting cast by way of Chloe Grace Moretz as Wednesday, Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things/ It) as Pugsley, Nick Kroll as Uncle Fester, Bette Midler as Grandmama, and Allison Janney as the film’s villain Margaux Needler.
The film is also set to be directed by Sausage Party directors Conrad Vernon and Greg Tiernan. When asked about the project, Conrad had this to say:
“Greg and I have always been a fan of the Addams Family in past versions, so when we set out to make this movie, we were excited to do something new. With that in mind, I drew from the brilliantly original Charles Addams New Yorker cartoons for the look of the film and decided to tell the story of how Gomez and Morticia meet, find their house and start their family. This unique approach is what drew me in to direct the film. The reimagining also extends to the stellar cast we’ve put together who will each bring their own spin to our film that will appeal to longtime fans of the Addams and introduce them to a new generation.”
