Alison Brie Ready to ‘G.L.O.W.’ in Netflix’s 80s Female Wrestling Series

When I was little, I wasn’t sure why G.L.O.W. was important, but even back then, there was a small part of my brain that knew there was something special about the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling. In the 80’s, G.L.O.W. was equal parts wrestling and reality show. In fact, a lot of what the WWE is today is due in great part to some of what happened in G.L.O.W.

Interest in the old franchise has been high ever since a documentary about the show came out in 2013. Interest is so high, that Netflix wants in on the action and they are planning a new series set inside the world of the tumultuous wrestling franchise. Today, they announced the first big star who has signed on for the cast. No, it’s not Rhonda Rousey, it’s Allison Brie, of Community and Mad Men fame.

The series is set to run for 10 episodes and Netflix promises that it “takes place in Los Angeles during the Reagan era and will showcase big hair and body slams.” While the show will take some cues from the source, it will, largely, be a fictionalized story based around Brie’s character, Ruth, an out-of-work actress who sees female wrestling as her last chance at stardom.

Here’s the original opening from the show and the trailer from the documentary I mentioned above.
