AMC Announces New Showrunner And Season 4 Production Start Date

It looks like AMC will be promoting from within for the new Show Runner Position on The Walking Dead, filling the spot left vacant by Glenn Mazzara. The job will be going to the current supervising producer, Scott Gimple. Addtionally, Greg Nicotero (the man behind all the make-up and effects) and producer Tom Luse have been promoted to executive producers.

AMC’s EVP Joel Stillerman, had this to say about the new promotions:

“Scott’s voice has been an integral one since he joined the show. Greg Nicotero is a true artist whose work is simply brilliant. And, Tom Luse has really created the machine that allows this very large show to get made week to week.”

Gimple started on the writing staff in season 2 and is responsible for some of the biggest episodes of the show including episode 306 (“Hounded”) and last season’s episode 207 (“Pretty Much Dead Already”), which revealed Sophia in the barn.

Production on Season 4 will begin May 6
