According to Variety, Chris Hemsworth is in final negotiations to play Thor in Marvel’s upcoming live-action epic big screen adaptation.
The Australian actor was recently cast as Young Kirk’s father in J.J. Abram’s Star Trek and will now play the god of Thunder as well as the character in Marvel’s planned “Avengers” team up set for 2012.
Directed by Kenneth Branagh and tentatively set to debut on May 20, 2011, Thor is about a Norse god who develops a protective affinity for humans after being bashed to Earth by his father Odin in order to teach him a lesson in humility.
Hemsworth, who stars in MGM’s upcoming “Cabin in the Woods,” was also just cast in that studio’s remake of “Red Dawn” as Jed Eckert, the role originally played by Patrick Swayze in 1984.
