While I’ve always been quick to rail against most remakes and reboots, I’m finding myself excited to hear today’s news that Animaniacs is going to find new life on Hulu, starting in 2020. What’s more, Steven Spielberg is set to return as the show’s executive producer.
“I am so pleased and proud that Animaniacs will have a home at Hulu,” said Executive Producer Steven Spielberg in a press release. “Together with Warner Bros., we look to bring new audiences and longtime fans into this wild world of Yakko, Wakko, and Dot. I am also excited that the full library of Animaniacs and Tiny Toon Adventures episodes are included in the deal.”
If you have never seen Animaniacs, or you want to re-watch all 99 original episodes, you can check them out right now on Hulu. The real question is whether the show will have the same sensibility that it had in it’s first iteration. The show was funny, very smart, but not always the most politically correct. It will be interesting to see whether some of that will have to be left behind in the realm of today’s political climate.
