Bryan Singer to Direct Pilot for Matt Nix’s ‘X-Men’ TV Series

I’ve been really excited about the idea of Matt Nix’s X-Men series. I loved Burn Notice, and I’m really looking forward to the stories that he could tell inside Marvel’s mutant universe. That’s why I’m a little spooked about today’s announcement. I know that Bryan Singer’s name carries a lot more weight with the average viewer than that of Nix. I also know that it’s now a trend to have a major film director handle the helm for the pilot of a new show with high expectations. But did it have to be Singer?

I get it, he’s got a strong relationship with the X-Men Properties. The only problem there is the fact that the only X-Men movie I really liked (and can still enjoy upon rewatching) is X-Men: First Class. One that he didn’t direct. I guess FOX knows what they are doing? I mean, all of their other choices on Marvel properties have been beyond reproach.

If you aren’t familiar with the story for the new series, it’s the story of two ordinary parents who discover their children possess mutant powers. Forced to go on the run from a hostile government, the family joins up with an underground network of mutants and must fight to survive.

We know that it won’t be tied to the movie universe, but it will share some aspects and a similar feel. We also know that it will have Sentinels.

I look forward to being proven wrong.
