SyFy doesn’t believe that fans are done with the Child’s Play universe and they are putting their money on it. To that end, they just announced that they are partnering with Don Mancini, the franchise creator, to develop a new series based around the doll from the Child’s Play films.
The first Chucky movie came out in 1988 and spawned 4 sequels, none of which earned as much as the original at the box office (that even includes adjusting for inflation). There is also a reboot of the film franchise set to hit the big screen this June. There is no word on whether there will be a connection between the film and this new series or if they will stand apart. Here is what Mancini said about the new deal in today’s press release:
“I’ve long wanted to bring Chucky to television and Syfy is the perfect network for us. The show will be a fresh take on the franchise, allowing us to explore Chucky’s character with a depth that is uniquely afforded by the television series format, while staying true to the original vision that has terrorized audiences for over three decades now.”
