Cobra Kai is the series that defied all expectations. Launching on YouTube’s attempt to create a paid streaming platform that nobody asked for, Cobra Kai relaunched a franchise that had already failed to gain traction as a reboot.

After a couple of great seasons on Youtube, the show moved over to Netflix where the continuing adventures of your favorite Karate Kid characters have become a massive hit. Now, THR is reporting that the series is set to take its final bow with season 6.

The double announcement this morning is both exciting and sad for fans. On one side, we now have confirmation that Netflix has picked up a season 6, the downside is that it will be the last. With that said, the streamer is promising that it will be the ‘Biggest and Baddest’ season to date.

Here is what creators Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg had to say.

“Reacquainting the world with the Karate Kid universe has been our humble honor,” the trio said in a statement. “Making Cobra Kai has allowed us to join the same hallowed dojo once inhabited by the great Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub, and all the amazing original cast members. It has also enabled us to play sensei, expanding the original storylines and birthing a new generation of underdogs. We’ve never once taken this opportunity for granted.

Our day one goal with Cobra Kai has always been to end it on our terms, leaving the Valley in the time and place we’ve always imagined. So it is with immense pride and thankfulness that we are able to announce that achievement. The upcoming season six will mark the conclusion of Cobra Kai.”
