The development of a live-action Blue Beetle television series was first teased back in June by DC chief/writer Geoff Johns. Johns had even uploaded some stills from the live action screen test.
Well the complete test footage is now online after having aired for the first time at SDCC last weekend. It features the new Blue Beetle, Jaime Reyes transforming into the scarab superhero. It’s uncertain whether this will actually get picked up for television, but this clip is still definitely worth a watch.
The CGI is a bit rougher than I thought, but maybe the fanboy in me was expecting too much. It’s pretty evident that it’s in very early stages of development. With the departure of Smallville looming and a crop of wannabe superhero themed series popping up this year, it’d be a shame if a real superhero such as the Blue Beetle doesn’t make it to air.
