In a recent interview with TV Guide, Bruce Campbell talked about the the upcoming “Evil Dead” remake and dropped a disappointing bomb confirmed that his character Ash would not appear in the sequel.
Here’s what Campbell had to say about the matter:
We are going to remake it. The first one. And people are a little iffy about that [but] we wanted to remake a movie with better effects and we’re better at telling stories now… There’s no ‘Ash’ character and that pisses people off [but] we didn’t want to have the direct comparison. I wouldn’t want to put an actor in that position.
As disappointing at this must be for “Evil Dead” fans, Campbell is right. In a lot of ways I would much rather have a better movie than a cheezy B film, which, let’s be honest, was kind of what the original “Evil Dead” films were. At the end of the day however, I hope Ash does at least make some kind of cameo. Maybe like the Campbell cameos in all the Sam Raimi “Spider-Man” films. Because it just wouldn’t be right otherwise.
