Earlier in the week, we talked about the plot to the now “cryogenically frozen” Tron Ascension. Now it is beginning to look like Disney isn’t so much freezing that film as much as tossing it in the bin in favor of a reboot.
According to THR, the studio is looking into the prospect of a reboot, starring Jared Leto, my least favorite Joker. They are early enough into the project that no writer has been brought on board, but Tron Legacy and Oblivion producer, Justin Springer is set to produce.
sources involved in the project are saying that they won’t be trashing everything that’s happened as much as taking one new character from the Ascension Script named Ares, and giving him the lead in a new story that draws from the foundation of what has come before. It’s nice to see that it doesn’t sound like they’ve tossed Flynn out with the bathwater, at least not yet.
There is no word on whether Tron: Legacy Director Joseph Kosinski will be part of the project.
Superman is currently scheduled for release on July 11, 2025
The new series is set for a two-episode premiere, June 4 on Disney+.
