CSI is 20 years old and CBS is looking at bringing the series back for an event mini-series to celebrate. There are few shows out there that have both inspired people to go into criminal science and also created completely unrealistic expectations for real-life juries about what forensics should be capable of doing.
News of the revival was broken by Deadline earlier this morning. The series premiered in 2000 and lasted for fifteen seasons. Along the way, it spawned several spin-offs (some more successful than others) that included: CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, and CSI: Cyber. To this day, CSI remains one of the most important franchises in the history of CBS.
While nothing has been confirmed in regards to involvement, we do know that original cast-members William Peterson and Jorja Fox have both been approached for the new series. There’s no word on whether additional original casters including Marg Helgenberger, George Eads, Gary Dourdan, Paul Guilfoyl, Laurence Fishburne, and Ted Danson could be a part of it. There is also no word on whether the extended CSI universe could feature into the revival. We’d love to see a story in which all of the former CSI teams have to come together when a serial killer starts taking them all out. Even better if that killer is Laurence Fishburne’s character, who has finally gone completely over the edge.
