It’s been known for a while now that Batwoman would be the focal point of this year’s arrowverse crossover. Now we know that the appearance is being used as an opportunity to spin the character off into her own series. We haven’t been given any other info, other than the show’s log line:
“Batwoman revolves around Kate Kane, who, armed with a passion for social justice and flair for speaking her mind, soars onto the streets of Gotham as Batwoman, an out lesbian and highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence. But don’t call her a hero yet: in a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”
There’s a good bet that the show has been made possible by the upcoming end of Gotham. It’s hard to imagine WB running two Batshows at the same time. This show will also mark the first CW superhero show that is led by a lesbian hero. Taking a cue from the recent backlash against Scarlet Johannsen, The CW has stated that they are seeking a lesbian actress to fill the role. There’s a good chance that the actress has already been chosen and we’ll get a reveal later this week at San Diego Comic-Con.
