We’re at that stage where we know “Ghostbusters 3” is coming. When will it come out however, well… that’s another story entirely. Bill Murray has been quote as being skeptical about the third installment ever happening. But recently, Dan Aykroyd has spoken out about the project revealing that he’s currently working on the script which was written by two writers who’ve penned “The Office” and the movie “Year One” — Gene Stupnitsky and Lee Eisenberg.
Aykroyd had this to say about the whole situation:
I think [Bill Murray] was concerned that the writing on Ghostbusters 3 by these guys would not be up to standard, but I can tell you firsthand, I’m working on the script now and those two—Stupnitsky and Eisenberg, [writer-producers of The Office]—wrote Bill the comic role of a lifetime, and the new Ghostbusters and the old are all well represented in it…we have a strong first draft that Harold [Ramis] and I will take back, and I’m very excited about working on it.
I suppose if you read between the lines, the draft written by Eisenberg and Stupnitsky was crap and now Aykroyd himself has stepped in to salvage it. But this is certainly good news and at least shows some progress. Meanwhile, director Ivan Reitman was recently quoted as a possible director, who still has interest in directing it.
Although “Ghostbusters 3” is still not in production, at least it’s slowly finding its way out of development hell and that’s all any one can really ask for, for now.
