Dan Trachtenberg to Helm Y: THE LAST MAN

It’s about damned time this movie got moving again!

Dan Trachtenberg is most famous for his Portal fan film that reached over 11 and a half million views on YouTube last year. The short film got him a lot of attention and now it looks like it has landed him one of the most anticipated comic book movies in years, the long-awaited film adaptation of Brian K. Vaughn’s Y: The Last Man.

Several names have been attached to the film, including the director DJ Caruso and the “actor” Shia Lebeauf. Trachtenberg was working on an original pitch called “Crime of the Century”, but that will now go on the backburner as Y: The Last Man will now be his priority.

Here’s the viral short that Trachtenberg made for Portal:

In case you haven’t read the series… and if you haven’t, shame on you! Here’s the synopsis from Amazon:
Y: THE LAST MAN, winner of three Eisner Awards and one of the most critically acclaimed, best-selling comic books series of the last decade, is that rare example of a page-turner that is at once humorous, socially relevant and endlessly surprising.

Written by Brian K. Vaughan (LOST, PRIDE OF BAGHDAD, EX MACHINA) and with art by Pia Guerra, this is the saga of Yorick Brown—the only human survivor of a planet-wide plague that instantly kills every mammal possessing a Y chromosome. Accompanied by a mysterious government agent, a brilliant young geneticist and his pet monkey, Ampersand, Yorick travels the world in search of his lost love and the answer to why he’s the last man on earth.
