Dark Horse Comics announced at Emerald City Comic Con over the weekend that they will be teaming up with actor Levar Burton to produce a currently untitled short comic which would debut in the June issue of Myspace Dark Horse Presents.
According to Marketing Coordinator Aaron Colter, the story will be about “physics, family, and consequences.”
Levar Burton, who played Lt. Commander Geordi LaForge in the 1990s Star Trek series “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” will always be better known as the host for the children’s television show “reading Rainbow.” Therefore, it comes as quite a nostalgic awe to learn that he’ll be involved in some sort of geeky/literacy project (because comics are books too).
Colter cites Twitter being the cause of this team-up, as Twitter interactions turned into a conversation about Burton actually writing comics.
While the Dark Horse Presents comic will only be a one-shot, Dark Horse says that Burton “is looking forward to doing more with us in the future.”
Burton, who who is no stranger to writing has also written a prose novel called “Aftermath,” and is a long-time comics fan who lived in Germany on an American military base as a child, and grew up reading and trading American comic books with other children on the base.
