DC – David Zaslav Explains Batgirl Axing, Future of DC at Warner Bros

The Warner Bros stockholder meeting is going on as we speak and CEO David Zaslav has spoken on the subject of DC films and their future at the corporation. He said that The Flash is still slated to come out, but he pointed to a major shift away from high-cost streaming product that isn’t good enough to get released on the big screen. Here are some highlights from his talk:

“Our ambition to is bring Warners back and produce great high-quality films. We can build a long-term sustainable growth business out of DC” Zaslav continued “we’re not releasing a film before it’s ready

“The focus is to make these films as good as possible, There’s no comparison when you launch a film in motion picture theaters. Expensive films going to streaming…can’t find an economic value for it.

“We’ll always be agile. But the focus will always be on theatrical.”

“We have seen The FlashBlack Adam and Shazam 2. We are very excited about them. We’ve seen them. We think they are terrific, and we think we can make them even better.”

It could have just been an omission, but it is really interesting that Aquaman 2 wasn’t mentioned as the films that Zaslav is excited about releasing, especially given the recent concerns about including Amber Heard and additional recent rumors that they had to get Ben Affleck to come back and reprise his role as Batman because audiences were apparently confused by the appearance of Michael Keaton in the film.
