‘DC Legends Of Tomorrow’ Phasing Out Constantine For HBO Max Series

Matt Ryan has been the quintessential live action John Constantine for DC and Warner Bros ever since his short-lived NBC series. Now, as a regular on Legends of Tomorrow, he’s become an integral member of the ensemble cast. The good news is that Ryan is set to remain a part of the cast, but Constantine has got to go. Over at HBO Max, JJ Abrams is developing a darker, and most likely POC version of the character for a new series and Warner Bros doesn’t like the idea of both versions existing at once (because audiences are too stupid to tell the difference?). As a result, they are phasing the character out of Legends during the tail-end of this season. Thankfully though, Ryan will be staying on-board as a new, undisclosed character. Here’s what he told fans during his Comic-Con panel yesterday:

“As everyone who loves him knows, in the end, John Constantine will walk his path alone. The time has come for John to part ways with the Legends, and for me to part ways with John,” Ryan says. “I’m really excited to be creating this new role on the show and having some fun with it — discovering how this new character fits in and causes some trouble for the Legends.”
