Last week, we reported that Greg Berlanti, one of the main minds behind DC’s CW universe, was working on a show around Black Lightning. Today, news has come down that the new series won’t find a home at the network which now has the majority of the capes that currently inhabit TV. Instead, it will be heading over to FOX where it will be in the company of Gotham, the Batman prequel that is getting ready to premier it’s third season.
EW is reporting that the show, centered around one of the first African-American super heroes in comics, will be written by husband and wife partners Mara Brock Akil and Salim Akil. It will focus on the man, Jefferson Pierce, a hero who has to come out of retirement to help his justice seeking daughter, and a star student who is getting trapped into joining a gang. As to whether the show will connect to the DCCW universe, possibly cross over with Gotham, or will just exist on its own, we have no idea, but I’d bet that Black Lightning will be flying solo, at least for the time being.
