Dungeons and Dragons is having a major moment. Online shows like Critical Roll, a growing group of celebs who are singing the game’s praises, and the fact that people have been trapped in their homes for two years has led to one of the biggest resurgences we’ve ever seen of the role playing game. Now, Deadline is reporting that a new TV series is in the offing.
According to the new report, Red Notice director, Rawson Marshall Thurber is going to direct and oversee the creatives on the series for Hasbro and Wizards of the West Coast. Additionally, he’ll also be writing the hour-long pilot script for the series.
eOne, the studio behind the new show has been working on bringing it to the small screen for a while now. here’s what eOne’s President of Global Television Michael Lombardo told Deadline in November.
“We don’t want it to just be one show, so we are building out, developing out a multi-pronged approach for television, a number of scripted shows and unscripted, and we hope to be taking this out to the marketplace early next year,” he said back then.
As to where we’ll see the show air, the best bet is Netflix. they already have a relationship with Thurber from Red Notice. Sadly, there are no details yet on the form the series will take. No details have been released. However, one good sign is that it does at least appear Thurber isn’t just signing on for the paycheck. He just posted on Twitter that grew up playing the game with friends, so he is approaching it from a place of love.
