Time for some celebratory tacos! In a moment that most Deadpool fans wished for, but thought would never actual happen, is actually going to happen! Earlier this year, you might recall the amazing test footage that was released for the film. I say released because there’s no way it was leaked. More like it was floated out onto the net as a trial balloon. The response was so great that even Ryan Reynolds commented today on how “awestruck” he was by it.
There’s a script in place from the team who wrote Zombieland, and those who have seen it, love it. We know that Reynolds is attached. I’m not sure he’d let this movie happen without him at this point. Best of all, it’s not like we have to wait 5 years for it to come out. The official release date is set for February 12th, 2016.
Another bit of great news is that the film only has a fifty million dollar budget. That means there’s a good chance that they might let the movie fly as an R-Rated feature. If they sunk the standard $150 million into it, they’d be counting on all the kiddies coming to see it and pay it off.
Here’s what Simon Kinberg said about the project earlier this year:
“Yeah, it makes sense to me. Genuinely it’s early phases, early days, but if you’re gonna do a Deadpool movie, I think you’ve gotta do a hard-R, darker movie and he is the perfect character to do it with.”
