Live TV musicals have been a thing in recent years, but I’m still not sure why. They are usually more cringy than anything else and they are rarely broadcasts that are cherished or even remembered within a month of airing. Disney has now announced that, in addition to the upcoming live-action film remake of The Little Mermaid with Halle Bailey, there will also be a live broadcast musical event of the story on ABC.
Set to air on November 5 at 8/7c on the network, this version of the musical will feature Moana star Auli’i Cravalho as Ariel, Queen Latifah as Ursula, and Shaggy as Sebastian the crab.
As previously mentioned, the live-action The Little Mermaid film adaptation will star Halle Bailey a Ariel, Awkwafina as Scuttle, Jacob Tremblay as Flounder and (rumored but not confirmed) Melissa mcCarthy as Ursula, Javier Bardem as King Triton, and Harry Styles as Prince Eric.
