In an announcement that is going to make a lot of Disney fans and investors happy, The Walt Disney Company has just fired their CEO Bob Chapek and rehired his predecessor, Bob Iger. Iger left the company 11 years ago to explore other opportunities including a rumored desire to run for president, but since he left, the company has suffered several critical and financial crises and a 40% drop in stock prices.
News outlets are reporting that Iger is coming back for two years to right the ship and reset Disney onto the path of success. One question that fans are asking is what this could mean for some of the big licenses like Marvel and Star Wars. Many people would argue that both have suffered from a serious lack of overall quality. Could this mean that Kathleen Kennedy’s job could also be at risk? Only time will tell, but there are more than a few fans out there who still dream that Dave Filoni or Jon Favreau were in charge of Lucasfilm, or at least the Star Wars franchise.
