Disney gave their Cinemacon presentation today in Las Vegas and one of the biggest chunks of news was about the future of the Star Wars franchise.
Starting in the summer of 2015, when they release Star Wars: Episode VII, they plan on releasing a new film every year until they run out of ideas or the sun goes supernova, killing all mankind.
The plan is to release an Episode film every other year and then alternate that with stand alone films that are dedicated to a particular character.
when not directing the Enterprise, J.J. Abrams is working on prepping for production of Episode VII. The script is being handled by Screenwriters Lawrence Kasdan (The Empire Strikes Back) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class). It looks like they will also probably be doing some serious work on the stand alone films as well.
