Disney Pulling The Plug on Disney Infinity Game System

Disney Infinity, the self-published console system from the house of mouse that let you collect action figures and add them port them into a shared world of games, is done.

The announcement came down today from the company, who just recently released a whole slew of new Disney and Marvel characters for the game.

“This was a difficult decision that we did not take lightly given the quality of Disney Infinity and its many passionate fans.”

It is a bummer, but something seemed a little fishy when they announced a couple months ago that there was no plan to release new sets this year for any other Marvel properties or Star Wars Rogue One.

GM, John Blackburn, had this to say on their blog:

“Our goal for Disney Infinity was to bring the best of Disney storytelling to life in homes around the world, and with your support we accomplished that. We hope you had as much fun playing the game as we had making it.”

Before they shutter the system, there will be two new releases set for May and June. One will be for Alice Through The Looking Glass, and the other for Finding Dory.

This leaves Skylanders, LEGO Dimensions, and the seemingly promising but realistically crappy Hasbro Playmation system. I wonder if Disney has decided that they can make more money by licensing their figures over to LEGO instead dealing with the mess of software, hardware, and toy manufacturing on their own.
