THR is reporting that Disney getting ready to remake “Flight of the Navigator.” The original film from 1986 tells the story of a 12 year old boy who is abducted by an alien spacecraft in 1978 and reappears eight years later, still the same age and with no memory of what happened. NASA scientists discover a connection between the boy and a downed spacecraft and try to exploit the boy, who ultimately escapes with the ship and attempts to reunite with his family.
I loved the movie when I was a kid. Heck, I loved it when I saw it on TV a few months ago, but the movie should not be remade. The movie didn’t even do that well in the theater. Disney is banking on the fact that it has achieved a cult following on VHS and DVD after the fact. It makes sense, because everyone knows that fans of cult films love it when you screw with the source material.
That said, I’d love a prop replica of the ship and maybe that cool little alien from the movie.
